Amazing, I’m full of Gracie.

Gracie brought me down.
Yup. She brought down this one hundred sixty pound woman.
Brought the smackdown to this five foot eight, girl unexpecting…
…I’m not easy to take down, y’all. I’m tough and rough and full of stuff. But on my birthday 2007, all was reversed.
All that is me was humbled and bumbled.
It began early that morning…
…It started with three innocuous looking deer in our drive. She got more than a few steps running at them. I took off like a bat outta Hell toward a fate unknown.
I just ran after her. It’s what I do. She never knew that, though. She didn’t expect to get that extra square footage. She never knew she’d bust off her line. Neither did I, just then.
But she came back. Head down, ears lowered. Just like me. Head down, ears lowered.
We came back to Yadge. Both of us. Because that’s where our hearts live. That’s where our salvation is.
We both acknowledge and give up and give in to her. She’s our band-aid, our cure for our battle wounds. We just run out and lunge toward the demons that might cause harm. Real or not so real. We don’t care. Me and my Gracie serve and protect no matter the foe. But we both know what we fight for.
Her.
We love her. And we’ll both give our lives to keep her safe. Me and Gracie. We’re kindred, me and her. We wake up every day and know what’s important.
Gracie filled me up, left an indelible mark on my soul.
I hope I filled her up, too. I hope I colored inside her lines.

I miss her. I miss her Mom, too. It’s not so easy being human anymore…

Gracie’s owner wanted me to tell the whole story of the takedown. Well, later that night, Gracie took off yet again, after a dog this time. I didn’t expect in the slightest to go along for the ride. And I do mean ride. I sucked dirt. I think I still have plant matter in my hair…Thanks for bringin’ that up, Yadge. Hopefully there won’t be any incidents of that nature in Ohio this week. I guess my skirt could fall off. That would be right up there with one of the most humbling experiences. Glad you got a good chuckle, missy.

God, I love that dog!
She’s the best thing ever.
(I hope Charles can’t read)
I love him, too.
